PayPal is forcing me to do what I don’t want to do
Long time seller on eBay but of course eBay bought PayPal so they are very linked…..which brings me to my recent problem as a seller.
Trying to list items on eBay they would not allow me to list my items until I “verified my ID” on PayPal.
So started a three hour saga.
To verify my ID I would have to do one of two things: link my banking account information to PayPal or take a PayPal MasterCard credit card. I was told by their customer service rep that that was the only way they could verify my ID which would allow me to start selling on ebay again.
After going around “robin’s barn” with their Customer Service rep I was given over to a Supervisor who stated she could indeed help me sort out the problem.
She only restated the Customer Service line but added “this was for my protection too”, what? Really? My protection…..hmmmmmm
Then she offered to contact and conference call eBay Customer Service because she said it was actually an eBay problem anyway (this was after a 30+ minute call with an eBay Customer Service Rep who said it was a PayPal problem).
Well, I had both Reps from eBay and PayPal and so they both finally stated that the only way to resolve the problem was for me to do what PayPal (and of course eBay) wanted….link my banking info to take out a PayPal Mastercard Credit or Debit card.
NO! Not today, not any day. I’m tired of being forced into taking on another credit card or exposing my banking information to security breeches which so many people are so willing to do (can you say gullible perhaps) with out really thinking about it.
I told both reps that I’m done. I won’t ever sell on eBay again and I closed both accounts. EBay and PayPal can both shove it as far as I’m concerned.
I’ll sell on Craigslist, Google or local consignment shops but not on eBay.
