Ebay instructing paypal to hold my funds

I’m so furious I could spit! I have done ebay off and on for many years. I just started up again a few months ago. I continued to list items, get paid for items, then ship them. Last week I noticed “funds aren’t available yet” on 3 of my sold items. I assumed that the customer had done an e-check that needed to clear before they actually put it in my account. Every day I would look to see if they cleared to see if I should ship the items. Boy was I wrong! I contacted one of the buyers and she explained that paypal had taken the money out of her checking account immediately and she couldn’t understand what they were waiting for. I went ahead and sent her item because I knew it wasn’t her fault. She suggested my calling paypal. Well, I did and after a few emails of my complaining, they divulged to me that it wasn’t paypal behind the hold, it was Ebay and I should contact them. Well, I did and what I heard was unbelievable! I was informed that my account was sub par according to Ebay’s standards and that they were going to contiue holding funds for 21 days until I improved! I have a 98.6% feedback rating but they felt that I wasn’t having enough communication with the buyers! I asked to speak to someone else and she transferred me to the “Trust and Safety Department”. The representative I spoke to explained why this had happens. She said I must use the confirmation process when using USPS so ebay knows for sure that the customer got their package. Not having done ebay for a while, I honestly didn’t know that. I told her I would do that from now on, but both customers had received their items and left me positive feedback! She was nice and tried to get everything straightened out for me and then told me what I could do to “improve” my performance to coincide with Ebay’s standards! I just listened and said oka oka, but please see that the money being held for those 2 transactions is released. She said she would document everything and transfer me over to the department that could do that for me. Well, someone probably from a foreign country explained to me that he couldn’t break policy and that my funds would be held up for 3 weeks even though the customer got their items. He said I needed a USPS confirmation. Here we go again. Realizing that I would get no where with him, I asked for his supervisor. Well, that was useless because the so called “supervisor, again from a foreign country” refused to break policy. He said they would reevaluate my account on September 27th and then revisit the situation. If they weren’t satisfied, they would continue this policy until such time that I became Ebay material! Well, needless to say, I lost it and told him that what he was doing was illegal. I also told him that they covered themselves in small print, but there was a revolution on the way and paypal had been taking the heat all the while knowing the order came down from Ebay. I told him that in this economy, there are little folks depending on ebay for their food! Not only do they hold up the price of the item, but the shipping too! Essentially, the customer has their item, ebay has my money and I have nada!!! I told this idiot that if a company who had a new employee on a probational period held back their pay until he met their standards, the eeoc would shut them down in a heartbeat!! I asked why the other department gave the oka to release the funds. He informed me that the girl had no authorization to tell him to release the funds. I asked him what he was going to do about that. HE SAID SHE WOULD GET EDUCATED!!!! I then asked him if ebay would put a hold on her paycheck until she met the ebay standards. He said no. I told him that I didn’t want to sell for ebay anymore so, they wouldn’t be making a penny off of me nor would paypal who they own! I told him I’d have a yard sale first or try to find another auction site. After all, Ebay started from nothing. I then told him to tell Mr. Ebay, that he’s gonna feel this in more than one way. With the economy the way it is, there will be a revolution and Ebay’s stock will go down the tubes! I have never heard anything like this in this day and age. This reeks of blackmail and where is the ACLU now??? I told this idiot that after I got off the phone with him, I was going to spend the rest of the night letting everyone who thinks it’s paypal’s fault the real true and he could look forward to alot more calls like mine! Unfortunately, the small print tells the story and we were like sheep to the slaughter! They won’t get another item listed from me!

  1. this is the worst service. They need to be put out of business. They deduct money from your acct. and then pay your mortgage late.

I think that what you wrote pretty mush sums up the frustration all of us are feeling when dealing with paypal and ebay. The 21 day hold put a stop to my drop shipping business because my supplier doesnt want to wait 21 days to get paid. But paypal doesn’t care or take in to consideration that I have been with them for over 8 years and have perfect feedback and only have ever had 2 disputes and never a chargeback. I just don’t see how I am a risk and why they have to hold my funds. They really pissed me off.

    Dear Sirs,

I recently sold a used race car set on EBAY Canada’s web site.
On the listing in the description as in all listings I have ever done, I put the freight cost in bold letters. By doing this I let the bidders know in advance what the cost of shipping will be.
In almost all cases the amount I charge for shipping is equal or below the actual cost of packing and shipping the item.
Until this last transaction I have never had a problem receiving my funds. This time it was different, EBay has held my funds even thought the goods have been delivered and the buyer has put a positive “feedback” on my account. MY FEEDBACK SCORE IS 100% (cannot do better than that!)
EBay claims they will hold my money without paying me interest even though they know the goods have been delivered and are satisfactory. The eBay transaction number is 251136251608
My concern is they are taking a fee for selling the item, then they take a fee for using PayPal, (they own PayPal) and then they hold the funds pay no interest on the hold and at their discretion they release the money…
On how many transaction does this occur? Especially if all is in order prior to people bidding on an item?

Is this not Usury? Is this legal?

The whole transaction was only $84.00 for selling my old race car set and the buyer was very excited (as he should be it was well below what I paid) but enough is enough. By the way I have called three times trying to explain that I put in my description the up front price, but they continue at the time of this email to hold my funds.
I have cancelled any other items that I was going to sell and will never use them again, but they should be stopped from taking advantage of Canadians like myself.
