I closed my PayPal account and here’s why you should too
I closed my Paypal account since a while, so this is a retrospective feedback.
I have used Paypal during several years, and I understand that they put effort to find fraudsters. However, if you are not a compulsive buyer, be prepared to be considered as such a frauder: I rarely buy something through Paypal (~5/year), and almost each time I buy something, even for a few euros, my account was automatically blocked and I had to go through the unblocking procedure, which means provide personal information, change my password and wait for my account to be restored. It is so frustrating to use a service to make things simple, and yet you have to go through all this burden.
And not only it was frequent (relatively to my buying), but I started using Paypal because I did not have a credit card, and after several times, it became mandatory to provide a credit card number to unlock my account. When you have to go through that for something like 10 €, it is just a complete shame.
Now add to that the following: each time I go through the unblocking procedure, I fill the feedback report, mentioning each time my situation and that it would be nice that their algorithm stop to consider me like a frauder. But after several times it was still the same, and Paypal never contacted me about my specific situation. It seems my profile was just “not interesting enough” to care about my feedback (all the unblocking procedure went smoothly, why should they care about it?).
So, if you planned to use Paypal as an alternative payment method (only when you dont have another way to go), then just forget about it. Not only Paypal don’t care about you, but their system is clearly not adapted for your profile.
NB: the last procedure I went through, I was not able to “smoothly” unlock my account because I did not provide a credit card number. I had to contact them (angry mood) in order to force them to unlock my account so that I can transfer my money back to my bank (if the account is blocked you cannot recover your money) and close my Paypal account (which is a burden by itself).
