$1400 taken from my bank account and disappeared

On june 22, I had $1400 debited from my checking account to be transferred to paypal.

This didn’t show up in my Paypal account and I didn’t request the transfer! I notified the bank and they refunded the money to my account.

Paypal immediately limited my access to the funds that I had in Paypal and required me to answer several questions. I have sent them a copy of my Driver’s License, A copy of my Checking Account Statement, Debit Card Information, bills mailed to me at my address. This has been the case for almost two months! Paypal still has not explained to me how someone was able to take $1400 from my checking account and then the money just disappeared. Obviously paypal must be able to see where in their system the money went but so far they have been unwilling to tell me. They are also unwilling to unlimit my account even after I have provided them with everything they asked for. And now I am starting to think it was a bad idea to provide paypal with more of my personal information since my account has all ready been compromised once.

What to do in a situation like this?

It doesn’t look like Paypal is going to reinstate your account. I would suggest that you close the bank account that you have linked to your paypal account. That way no more money can be taken out of your bank account from paypal or hackers. If you had any money in your paypal account when it got limited this will be returned to you usually after 180 daye but you will have to request/beg paypal to release the funds to you.

Since they are unwilling to reinstate your account I would just close it. If they wont let you close it them I would close any and all accounts linked to PayPal. They re the ones that probably took that $1400. I don’t trust them as far as I can throw them.
